News: REOPEN TO THE PUBLIC
We’re SO EXCITED to announce that the AS220 Industries is back open to the public! In-person workshops have returned and we are accepting new members to join our community and use our amazing resources! Please note that masks are required in our Industries spaces regardless of vaccination status.
If you are interested in becoming a member, please drop by during our public hours and we can provide a new member application as well as a tour of our facilities. Our public hours are Thursdays from 4pm – 8pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10am – 6pm. We are located at AS220’s Mercantile Block building at 131 Washington Street in downtown Providence. We look forward to meeting you!
The AS220 Industries is a community makerspace made up of a print shop, media arts studio, fabrication lab, and darkroom. We offer affordable public workshops on a wide variety of processes and tools in the areas of printmaking, digital and film photography, videography, digital and traditional fabrication, podcasting, and more! Our resources are made available, at affordable rates, to anyone wanting to create their own work.

Workshop scholarships are available for folks with financial need – click here for more information.
Check our workshop page or online shop often as we’ll be announcing more workshops soon!
Our community of Industries members has designed and planned this public reopening — with support from AS220 staff — since the beginning of 2021 in an intentional process that centered the feedback and guidance of members, the health and safety of users, and in a way that strives to ensure the Industries program aligns with AS220’s Racial Justice Initiative and BIPoC demands.
We would not have been able to reopen without out the hard work and dedication of our Director of Programs Anjel Newmann; our Education Manager Sara Inacio; our Membership Manager Madison Emond; our Shop Lead members Jacques Bidon, Carol Sweeney, Larry Zagorsky, Sarina Mitchel, and Jon Winkelman; and the many others members who attended countless meetings and designed and tested safe reopening protocols.
See you at the Industries! What will you make?

We are thrilled to announce an incredible collaborative fundraising effort by our artist community … all in support of AS220!
Over 80 artists with deep connections to AS220 from all around the city, the country and the world have come together to reimagine one card each from the tarot. Every card is a unique piece of art; together, they form a mesmerizing collection that supports the movement building work of AS220. Sales of the deck will help AS220 continue to provide all Rhode Island artists affordable access to AS220’s galleries, performance venues, educational opportunities, residential spaces, and work studios.
Photos of each card in the deck can be viewed here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/as220/albums/72157718934311233
Decks will be available to pre-order until Wednesday, May 19th, 2021. Please allow at least one month for decks to be produced and shipped after the pre-order period has ended. We thank you in advance for your patience!
Each deck costs $40 and is available to be picked up locally at the AS220 Project Space Gallery (93 Mathewson Street, Providence RI 02903), or can be shipped for an additional $8 shipping and handling fee. Orders of multiple decks and international orders will require additional shipping and handling fees; please contact Galleries Director, Neal Walsh, at neal.walsh@as220.org before ordering.
Original artwork from the Murmurations tarot deck is currently on display at the Project Space Gallery. Visits by appointment only, contact Neal at neal.walsh@as220.org to check it out!
The tarot deck is called “Murmurations”. LUMUKU, a resident at AS220 and creative mind behind the project, says: “Starlings fly together just before dusk in remarkable, ever-changing formations called murmurations. Just as starlings move together through space and time to create something larger than themselves, the Murmurations tarot deck was made.”
On his inspiration for the project, LUMUKU says: “I’ve been a member of the Printshop for over ten years now and I’ve met a lot of incredible people. It’s been strange not sharing physical space but luckily it’s also been a time full of reflection. When this idea came to me, it felt like a wonderful way for people to come together again.”
AS220 wishes to thank LUMUKU for being the creative mind that sparked and lovingly coordinated this project; José Ato Menéndez and Tatiana Gómez Gaggero for helping bring it to fruition with their design, branding, layout, typography, and packaging work; Larry Zagorsky for fabricating the exhibit displays; and the over 80 artists who generously contributed art! AS220 is so humbled by the love these artists have for AS220 and our creative community — we thank them so much for their amazing generosity and support!
